I may have 50 Christmas cards to get finished, but I needed to play a little this past weekend, too. Inspired by a video by the talented Jennifer McGuire from last week, I wanted to play with this cute critter set and have some no-agenda crafting time.

Of course, once I started I figured I may has well make multiples (more love to share with more cards to mail!), and ended up creating three of these.

Miles Apart for the PALS Blog Hop | DancesWithHooves Paper Design

Mary Fish's Pretty Pals Blog Hop logo

Hello, welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop! This month our Design Team created projects where “It’s the Sentiment that Counts.” We hope you enjoy and will be inspired by them! Don’t forget to leave comments! We love hearing from you. At the end of my post, you will find the full line-up to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

Two cards with Forever Fern and Lovely You stamp sets.

Who loves fall? That’s me over here, waving my arms madly. What’s not to love? Fewer bugs, crisp and comfortable air, beautiful colors everywhere you look, and combines in the fields.

Ok, maybe the thrill of combines working on the harvest is just me, but I digress…

I debated between ideas I had for the main background panel, and ended up narrowing it to two – one for each card. Here, the Pinewood Planks embossing folder, and the Subtle folder for the second. Two of my favorites!

Naturally, I’m in an autumn mood. With the lovely cooler temps as of late here in Northern Minnesota, my mind has gone full-tilt toward all things fall. Beautiful oranges and ruby reds contrasting with a crisp blue sky and the still-green grass is about the epitome of God’s beauty in nature, in my humble opinion, so I had to use that as my inspiration for today’s card.

“The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

Psalm 19:1

I sponged the edges of each card with crumb cake, including some areas away from the edges, for a weathered feel.

I combined two of my newest Stampin Up sets, Forever Fern and Lovely You, grabbed a piece of the stunning new Plaid Tidings paper pack, and went to work.

With the focus being the sentiment for this design, I was a little hesitant to go too crazy with the color, so used crumb cake in order to provide less starkness and perhaps more of an autumn feel to the design.

You know I’d have to find a place to add glitter! Just a few accents on the leaves to add visual interest and contribute to the idea of a perfect, crisp fall day.

These cards are for a couple of friends – one celebrating her birthday in October, and I hope they bring them as much joy to receive as they gave me in designing them.

Masking and the same glitter accents on the foliage help to add interest to the inside of the finished designs.

More inspiration awaits! Use the Blog Hop Line-up below to visit the rest of this month’s Design Team. My fellow Pals are excited to show you what they’ve created! Mark your calendars for our next blog hop on October 14th when our theme is “Tag, You’re It!” Participants will showcase tags or 3D items that will be great for gifts for any occasion. Don’t miss the fun! Until then, please stay safe and have fun in your craft room.

SO Ready for Derby Day! | DancesWithHooves Paper Design

A challenge related to the Kentucky Derby?

… I’m in! 🙂

This week’s Tickle a Teapotter Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers is Hats On for the Derby, and though Sandy’s challenge was more about the fun Derby hats the ladies sport at the famous race, she did say “If you prefer horses to hats, that’s good too. We can’t have a race without horses,” soooooo… of course I went with horses! (I honestly don’t think I’ve got any stamps or dies with hats, anyhow.)

Usually run the first Saturday in May, the iconic Run for the Roses, like most other things in the world, had to see some changes for this year. This year, the Kentucky Derby has been rescheduled for September 5th. This is also the first time the three races of the coveted Triple Crown will be held out of the order they’ve been in since 1931 – and then, the Preakness was actually run before the Derby.

Someday, I hope to attend the Kentucky Derby with my husband. Not during a pandemic, however. And certainly not without a good hat in mind in which to wear.

I won’t know until Sunday where the Teapotter card will go, but I do know I have a dear horse-loving friend with a birthday coming up next week and quickly thought of another friend with an equine interest with a birthday coming this fall, so I made a trio of cards to check off all three boxes.

Of course, there’s ample mint (think Mint Juleps!) and bright pops of red (think the crown of Red Roses!) to throw in ties to the Derby!

…and check off three Splitcoast challenges:

MMTPT631Hats On for the Derby, CC806A So Poppy Party, and Sketch Challenge SC816. All three are fun challenges that helped me throw these cards together after work, between running to town for our Walmart pickup and getting dinner on the table and cleaned up. 🙂 SCS to the rescue!

P.S. – want to celebrate the 146th Kentucky Derby from the safety of your own home this year? You might want to check out these delicious-sounding Derby At-Home Menu recipes and mix up one of these Derby cocktails (mint julep anyone? Never tried it, but now might be the chance!), but first you best get your order in for Derby supplies so you can be sure to have them in-hand by next weekend! (I might consider attempting the Paper Flower Fascinator myself!).

Thank you so much for visiting my blog today – you make my day when you do! 🙂

Blessings,

Chrissy
