Silly Rabbit Easter Card | DancesWithHooves Paper Design

Creative ruts. They kind of stink!

I sat down last Wednesday or Thursday with some spare time on my lunch break and my stamp catalog and potential Easter-related dies in my lap, pen and paper in hand, to come up with a starting point for the Easter card I wanted to make.

I had an idea in my head, but it was a foggy one, and I didn’t know if and how I could make it work with what supplies I had on hand. See, Easter is such a beautiful season – a reminder of the proof that the Gift we were given with the birth of our Savior was a true gift indeed when as a sinless man He died for us… and rose again, just as He said. Just like He will again for us as He promised and we are reminded of throughout Scripture.

But I’m not going to lie… I adore those cute Easter bunnies we see everywhere these days, too!

He is Risen! | DancesWithHooves Paper Design

The pandemic has changed so many aspects of our lives, hasn’t it? Including my sudden desire… no, make that need, to make and send Easter cards.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIV)

Though I am a longtime follower of Christ and believe with every cell in my body that He died for us – for each and every one of us! – I have never before made nor sent Easter cards. Believe me, I’ve wanted to a time or two (or ten). I just always ran out of time! And to be honest, it’s not that I’ve got a ton of extra time on my hands right now (I still have to travel to and from the barn, and am spending just as much time with my horse as ever), but since I’m pretty well caught up with birthday cards and the like for the near future, I turned my crafty attention to one of the most beautiful holidays of all – Easter!

Easter Blessings | DancesWithHooves Paper Design

I received two Easter cards in the mail over the weekend, and when I thanked the senders I realized I had never really been in the habit of sending cards at Easter, and wondered why not?  Easter is perhaps THE most beautiful, hopeful, and grace-filled holiday we are blessed to celebrate as believers in Jesus Christ, and with present circumstances preventing us from spending the holiday with our loved ones this year, I decided to give it an honest effort.

I searched through my stamp collection, thinking I’d perhaps find a not-too-cute image of a sheep (if I had one… most of my sheep are super cute and cartoon-y!) to keep the theme on track.  Bunnies are great and all, but to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lamb of God, I wanted a sheep. 😉

“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.” –Matthew 28:6

My eyes landed on this oldie but goodie Stampin’ Up set, which was meant to be Christmas, but the Lion and the Lamb theme couldn’t have been more perfect to combine with some bright and peaceful pretty spring colors!

I tried my hand at “alcohol ink” blending on some Yupo (I tried a month or two ago – it was a disaster), and after messing with it and I thought ruining it, I busted out watercolor paper and designer paper for the three cards I wanted to make.  By the time I finished getting those ready, though, I loved how the yupo background had turned out after all, so bam – one alcohol ink, one watercolor, and one DSP card.  Works for me!

Entering these in two challenges, for separate cards in the series.

  • CC785 – Flirty Flamingo / Pineapple Punch / Bermuda Bay + “dessert” with the Easter theme – loosely, I’ll admit (I added the purple… sorry!!!)
  • WT786 – It’s Knotty Problem – twine bow on the yellow card

Blessings,

Chrissy
