Another design sample as part of the Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge Guest Design Team! I have participated in these challenges basically since I found SCS, and to have been given the amazing opportunity to contribute a card to the weekly inspiration roundup that goes along with it is humbling and I am incredibly grateful, excited, and, well… nervous!
Current and past sketch challenges, as well as all of the details, can be found here. Past sketch challenge design team samples I have created can be found here and also in my gallery on SplitCoast.
Without further ado, here is my card for this week’s sketch challenge at SCS!
Good day, friends!
Remember last week when I set out to make a card for my friend undergoing treatment for a serious health condition, and I ended up making something that looked much more like a sympathy card instead? Well, that card has indeed been finished off as a sympathy card and is at the ready for the next time we have a need for one of those, but my friend is still battling her condition and in need of a little cheer.
Enter exhibit B…
This week’s fun sketch from Carey had me at first thinking of another card I on my “must make” list, and I had all the colors picked out (I was going to do a gradient/ombre backdrop), the stamp set and the whole works. But as I thought about how to bring it all together, another idea popped into my head – the waves in the background had me thinking ocean waves, a waving flag, and then, something more cheerful yet: rainbows. Perfect for making a card to bring Kate some cheer!
Last year I was accepted into the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) and ended up reaching level 1 certification by last fall. This year, I’m working on level 2! I recently finished their Beyond Basic Backgrounds course, and this card is also my final project for that fun and inspiring class. I learned so many things from the instructor, and was inspired by the homework for one of the classes to make this rainbow version of a “repeating” background. I can’t wait to try more of the fun techniques shared in this course!
I have to say, this card brought me a lot of cheer just to make! From picking out the perfect bright pops of color to determining how to put it all together, it as a joy from start to finish.
And speaking of finish, no cheerful rainbow card would be complete without a little bit of glitter… or a lot! 🙂 The entire background is spritzed with sparkle, and after watercoloring the individual arches of the rainbow with coordinating SU inks, I gave them some extra pizzaz with the use of more glitter.
THANKS so much for dropping by! I hope you’ll take the time to say hello!
Blessings,
Chrissy
