Congrats on your new little… Filly!

Hi, all!

I had a blast this past weekend making this card to celebrate a new arrival at the barn.  Never before has the prime opportunity to make a baby card to welcome a foal been in my lap, and I sure wasn’t going to miss out on it!

I used several Splitcoast Stampers challenges to get my creative juices flowing in short order (I wanted to get the card delivered ASAP, as it had already been three days since the arrival of this sweet little filly!):

Ways to Use It Challenge 727 challenged us to use four letter words – “baby” and “foal” come to mind here! 🙂

Clean and Simple Challenge 513, “Stitch It Up,” gave me the perfect excuse to break out my new Kat Scrappiness dies that just arrived to give some fun texture detail to my main background panel, which I then stamped with images from Charlie Baby and the Hero Arts March 2018 kit using second generation stamping to make it more muted.

Free for All Challenge 465, “Things that go POP!” inspired me to use confetti stamps in my background mashup!

I decided to use distress ink on the “Congrats” die-cut sentiment, but I’m sort of sad to say that for the amount of time and effort it took to ink blend, spray it with water, and lift the water droplets, the payoff just wasn’t worth it on this design – I guess the body of the letters in my die just wasn’t big enough for the technique to show up.  Oh well!

After coloring in baby Charlie with colored pencils and blending with Gamsol, I stuck it back in my stamp platform and re-stamped the outline.  I think the payoff here was tremendous, as it really brightened up the outline of the image, making everything a lot more eye-catching.

It’s even hard to see in this close-up, but I added subtle sparkle to the foal’s blanket with my Wink of Stella brush.

Used fun foam to pop everything up and give it a solid, even surface – I really like using this with my clean and simple cards, where every detail counts.  The card feels much more substantial in your hand and therefore a bit more special. 🙂
