SC765 Oh Baby! – Sketch Challenge Design Inspiration

Here it is – my last month as a member of the Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge Guest Design Team!  This has been an incredible opportunity to contribute a card to the weekly inspiration roundup that goes along with it!

Current and past sketch challenges, as well as all of the details, can be found here.  Past sketch challenge design team samples I have created can be found here and also in my gallery on SplitCoast.

Without further ado, here is my card for this week’s sketch challenge at SCS!

It’s baby season!  At work, we have recently had several mothers welcome newborns into their families, and two ladies in particular I work with fairly closely – so of course I want to celebrate their new arrivals!

However, babies… well, I don’t have any of them myself (human ones at least!), and baby cards aren’t the most natural thing for me to come up with.  But forest animals are, and I remember the forest animals that decorated my own room from infancy to early grade school days, and animals are something I can work with… so with that, I got busy! 🙂

One boy and one girl to craft cards for, and I got to meet the little girl (Olivia) on Tuesday!  (She’s TINY – she was a little early, but oh goodness she’s tiny!)

It’s been a rainy, dreary last three days – but I’m not complaining, because cozy indoor weather this time of year is perfect for crafting.  And baking.  And cooking. And reading. And…. (sorry.  I just really love fall. 🙂   In fact, I think I’d like to go make a fall-themed card right now.  Too bad I have to get up and go to work tomorrow. 😉 )  But it was a perfect excuse to spend a little extra time pretty-ing these up with my beloved colored pencils.  The best kind of therapy, in my opinion.  Aside from one-on-one time with my horse of course. 😉

Anyway, to bring a little fun and life to the cards, I popped the little hot air balloon passengers up with a Stampin’ dimensional:

And then of course added glitter accents to each to round them out. 🙂

Where has the time gone?  With this card, I’m embarking on my last month as a part of the Splitcoast Sketch Challenge Design Team.  It has been a whirlwind but an opportunity I am deeply grateful to have been a part of.

Blessings,

Chrissy

Sketch Challenge Design Inspiration – SC746 – Featuring Altenew Academy project

Another design sample as part of the Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge Guest Design Team!  I have participated in these challenges basically since I found SCS, and to have been given the amazing opportunity to contribute a card to the weekly inspiration roundup that goes along with it is humbling and I am incredibly grateful, excited, and, well… nervous!

Current and past sketch challenges, as well as all of the details, can be found here.  Past sketch challenge design team samples I have created can be found here and also in my gallery on SplitCoast.

As I noted in my last card, Wednesday, April 17th was Husband Appreciation Day.  I never knew such a day existed, did you?  Well, when I found out, I knew I couldn’t ignore it, and as a cardmaker, what immediately came to mind is making one for my wonderful husband – who is more than deserving of appreciation every day.

Being an outdoors-enthusiast, he seems to particularly enjoy nature-themed cards.  Lately, he has gotten a lot of tree cards from me in one aspect or another (birch bark, pine trees, etc), so I kind of wanted to stay away from full-on, full-sized trees.  Flipping through my book of stamp inventory, I came across this oldie but goodie stamp set, and knew the small leaf images would be PERFECT for this week’s sketch challenge!

Last year I was accepted into the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) and ended up reaching level 1 certification by last fall.  This year, I’m working on level 2!  I recently finished their In the Mood for Color course, and this card is also my final project for that unique class.   Green is associated with soothing, growth, and nature, and I think this card is a good representation of all three!

The SplitCoast Central Theme for April is “Sprinkles and Shouts,” and an option for interpretation was to show some new life for Spring.  For me, seeing buds form on the trees and develop into leaves is definitely a sign of life after months of brown and gray and white!    This too fits in CAS428 from April 8th – “Show Me Your Bud.”  And of course, F4A477, from that same week, asked us to make something Spring-related.

THANKS so much for dropping by!  I hope you’ll take the time to say hello!

Blessings,

Chrissy

Just Because… with the Occasions Catalog and “Let It Ride”

2019-02-08 15.47.04

I have been *dying* to use this stamp set! The horse-lover in me did not hesitate one second to order it when I saw SU’s Occasions release this year, but to be truthful, I was having a hard time deciding what to do with it. I like to color my images, and the “brushstroke-like” outline images don’t make that easy, yet just stamping it in black ink doesn’t do much for me!

I realized Wednesday night that the hardest part is always beginning (as it is in all things in life) so just decided to dive right in and see what I came up with – my only “idea” going into this was to give this stamp set some love!

I ended up drawing inspiration from three SCS challenges from the past week:

CC725 – Very Vanilla, Night of Navy, Blushing Bride (I subbed Calypso Coral because that’s the closest I had)

SC735

F4A467 – “I Might Use That One Day” – you know those strips of cardstock that you save thinking “oh, I could use that again?” I have sooooooo many of those, especially in my neutral base colors! So, the very vanilla, calypso coral, *and* night of navy cardstock I used all came from said stash (aside from my card base panel itself).

I had to wait to see what this looked like in the daylight before posting (there’s really poor lighting in our house after sunset!), and thought I’d add more to it afterward, but I like how it turned out as it is just fine!

The larger very vanilla/embossed panel is raised with foam mounting dots, as well as the foreground “flag” panel featuring the horse head heat embossed with copper embossing powder.

The inside of the card is finished with the trio of horses stamp from the set stamped on a very vanilla panel cut slightly smaller than the card base.

Thank you all so much for viewing my card and *huge* thanks to the challenge hostesses for helping me get these stamps inky!

Blessings to you and yours,

Chrissy
