Our Love Is Written In The Stars for Valentine’s Day | DancesWithHooves Paper Design

Though the Valentines I shared last week were fun to make, this week I created the most important Valentine of all – the one I give my husband!

After seeing Tracy’s beauty on the CASology blog a week or so ago, I knew I had to try to re-create it myself for my husband. I adored how her card took a someone “feminine” holiday (meaning, usually it’s all pink and red and hearts and flowers) and gave it a twist a man’s man would appreciate, with a nod to nature and the depth of a deep blue navy.

Plus, with my husband’s birthday just a few days prior to Valentine’s Day, I wanted to expend all my creative energy on his birthday card (an original I’ll post later this week that I am SO excited to give him!), and have two cards for two separate but important occasions that I felt were worthy of giving to him!

Though I’ll admit, I closely emulated Tracy’s original design, I did add several touches to make it my own, first by making the card size extra large (it’s 5 3/4″ square! ) to make more of an impact, embossing stars on the rear panel, adhering the white frame to the rear panel and popping the constellation panel up off of that, and changing the placement and proportion of my sentiment strip – and adding my own little homemade “brad” to it for some fun and to keep drawing the eye on the left-to-right downward diagonal that I like to use on my designs.

I am entering this card in FIVE of the challenges from this and last week over on Split Coast Stampers:

WORD0121: “SLED” – This design incorporates each of the letters by featuring Stars, Love, Embossing, and the Depth of both layers and deep dark color!

CAS624: Hearts – Often “clean and simple” cards feature a ton of white space, but with this spin on the design concept, I’ve swapped the white space for navy space. 🙂 It’s a fun way to get visual impact on a still-clean design!

SC839 = a loose interpretation of the sketch!

WT830: Brads – I created my own “brad” of sorts by heat embossing the larger, single star from the Upon A Star set, cutting it out by hand, and adhering it over the top of the sentiment strip on this card.

F4A570: Hold the Red – there’s no red to be found on this Valentine!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog today – you make my day when you do! 🙂

Blessings,

Chrissy
